Globe Valves

Valve Body Material Selection Guide — Qatar Service
Selecting the correct valve body and trim material is critical to performance and service life in Qatar's demanding environments. This guide covers the most-specified valve body grades for Qatar EPC, operator, and offshore projects.
Carbon Steel — A216 WCB / A105
The standard choice for most Qatar oil & gas, Ras Laffan refinery, and process applications at –29°C to +425°C. Cost-effective, widely available from Doha stock, and strong. The default body material for Class 150–2500 valves on Qatar EPC projects.
Low-Temp Carbon Steel — A352 LCC / A350 LF2
Impact-tested carbon steel for service down to –46°C. Used in Qatar North Field LNG trains, refrigeration, and low-temperature gas processing where standard WCB would become brittle. Mandatory for Qatar cryogenic process valves.
Stainless Steel — CF8M / A182 F316
Excellent corrosion resistance for Qatar offshore piping, seawater systems, chemical service, and food & pharma. Service range –196°C to +538°C. The standard SS valve body for Qatar Ras Laffan petrochemical and offshore installations.
Chrome-Moly Alloy Steel — WC6 / WC9 / C5
A217 WC6 (1.25Cr-0.5Mo) and WC9 (2.25Cr-1Mo) for elevated temperature service up to +593°C in Qatar power generation, HP steam, and Ras Laffan refinery high-temperature circuits. Mandatory for HRSG and supercritical steam applications.
Duplex Stainless Steel — A995 4A / CD3MN
Excellent for Qatar offshore, seawater, and high-chloride environments where 316L is insufficient. PREN >35 — twice the strength of austenitic SS. Lighter valves, higher pressure ratings. Mandatory for North Field sour gas and offshore Qatar specifications.
Nickel Alloys — Inconel / Hastelloy / Monel
For extreme Qatar service conditions: Hastelloy C276 for reducing acids and oxidising media in Mesaieed; Inconel 625/718 for H₂S sour service and very high temperature North Field applications; Monel 400 for HF acid and Qatar seawater.

It is the most common gate valve standard in Qatar refineries at Ras Laffan and Mesaieed.
API 6D is the standard for pipeline valves — gate, ball, plug, and check valves — specifically for petroleum and natural gas transmission pipelines. API 6D gate valves are typically slab-gate or through-conduit types designed for mainline Qatar pipeline isolation and pigging operations. If your Qatar project is a refinery or process plant, specify API 600. If it is a North Field gas transmission pipeline or gathering system, specify API 6D.
In a floating ball valve, the ball is held in place only by the two seat rings and is free to float slightly — fluid pressure pushes the ball against the downstream seat to achieve the seal. Floating designs are used in smaller sizes (typically up to NPS 8″) and lower pressure classes for general Qatar service. They are lower cost and suitable for instrumentation, utilities, and small-bore process connections.
In a trunnion-mounted ball valve, the ball is mechanically anchored top and bottom with separate trunnion bearings — spring-loaded seats maintain contact with the ball. This design is used for large sizes (2″ and above) and higher Qatar pipeline pressures where the fluid force on a floating ball would require excessive operating torque.
